12 Days of Christmas :: 6 Bauble Cakes by cakecrumbs 12 Days of Christmas :: 6 Bauble Cakes by cakecrumbs
The absolute penultimate moment of Christmas for me is decorating the tree. I especially love baubles. I'm always buying more. It's actually amazing how quickly the money flies out of my purse where Christmas is involved, but especially Christmas decorations. I'm slightly obsessed. So I had to have baubles feature in this series.

This is my first time covering spheres with fondant. I was a lot less amazing at it than I had hoped. I need some serious practise here, cause ew.

Cakes are dark chocolate and raspberry cakes, baked in hemisphere pans, joined and crumb-coated in buttercream before being covered in fondant.

Lots of pictures and the recipe at the bloggity: [link]

"Ew," she says. Bah. I couldn't make these if you gave me ten years and a million dollars. I don't know how you could have made these look any better. Don't dis yourself.

Wow I always thought these where made out of clay until I saw them in the cake gallery. There like the ones I made from clay once.

I'm always in disbelief that the cakes are cakes. I always want to say that these are not cakes, especially the candles (I know its from a while back but...). Until I saw a picture where you cut the candle in half and revealed actual cake! You make the cake not a lie!

xDD Thanks. I try to reveal a cut photo in the blog wherever possible, mostly to prove that's it's a real cake rather than a dummy cake

The fondant doesn't look wrinkled or anything... the cakes are practically real ornaments, if you ask me.

Thank you. :] This photo does flatter them a tad. Most had some part on them where the fondant was overly stretched or there was a crease that wouldn't completely disappear. Will have to work on my technique to get them perfectly spherical.
