Cook Book Challenge: Week 35 by cakecrumbs Cook Book Challenge: Week 35 by cakecrumbs
Finally picking up the cook book challenge again. This week's recipe is Chocolate Whoopie Pies from Simply Heaven Volume 3.

For those who either aren't American or have never heard of them: think macaron made of cake. It's two layers of cake sammiched with chocolate cream. I'd never experienced them before, so I chose them for the challenge.

there have bin a lot of pure cholate. for fat people can't eat that because of the sugar and the cholate and the salt the next time please don't use that glass sevice. because the glass is just to big and uggly
the next you may can look it more tastier than how it looks right now.
taste is impotent above it all and i think that they may to small and full of flavour
i don't want it but i love it.
i'm curious how it taste but i'm just not of cholate cakes. they are may too overpowered on the taste.
What do you think?

It's been quite a while! I got busy with the 12 days of Christmas thing so I took a break, then I was away and it took forever to get the motivation back. *sigh* I'm going to try to be more diligent with it now.

There are so many different varieties out there ;) From pumpkin whoopie pies (with a cream cheese filling) to chocolate chip cookie dough whoopie pies (chocolate cake with a chocolate chip cookie dough filling- not actual cookie dough, but it tastes a lot like it! We've got a good recipe for them, if you'd like :)).

I've heard lots of nice things about pumpkin ones. I've never had pumpkin in anything sweet before. I'll have to try it one day!

Wait- so if you've never had pumpkin in anything sweet, then you haven't had pumpkin pie or bread, either? Oh, boy...I hope you get to try them soon :) I can't wait to see what else you come up with- your cakes are gorgeous!

Nope! Never! Sweet pumpkin dishes aren't particularly common here. I want to make pumpkin pie soon, though. My boyfriend also wants me to make pumpkin cheesecake.

Ah, okay. Where I live, there is seldom a fall/winter party or get-together where there isn't at least one sweet pumpkin dessert or snack...perhaps that's because pumpkins grow like weeds here? Or that it's just tradition..who knows. Hope you like the pie, though! And I have to say, pumpkin cheesecake sounds really good right now...

I think it's just a cultural thing. Pumpkin is a big part of Australian cuisine, but on the savoury side. You'll be hard pressed to find an Aussie roast dinner without roast pumpkin (which sucked for me as someone who used to hate it!) A lot of families serve mashed pumpkin as a side dish staple for weeknight dinners, often alongside, combined with or even instead of mashed potatoes. A lot of people eat pumpkin but the moment you suggest pumpkin sweets it's like "What?"

Probably is. In American cuisine, (at least, in my area) pumpkin is most commonly found in desserts, while squash is more common as a savory dish, served much like you do with pumpkin. If you ask me, it's really neat to see the different ways common foods are used and prepared in countries around the world, so thanks for the cultural food tips!

I agree - I love hearing about other customs and cultures. It's amazing how even our two relatively similar cultures can have such large differences.
