Cook Book Challenge: Week 37 by cakecrumbs Cook Book Challenge: Week 37 by cakecrumbs
This weeks book is Women's Weekly's "Chocolate". I've always wanted to make pinwheel cookies, or Choc-Vanilla Spiral Cookies as they are called in this book. The challenge was a good excuse to give them a go.

I think once I tried to make this, but the recipe I had wrote it a bit different and I managed to bake cookies hard as stone. I think I should try that way as it is in your blog. It looks so good *.*
Thank you for sharing

My mother, my brother and I always bake similar cookies when it's christmas. A half of the cookie dough will be pinwheel cookies and the other half... we call it "chessboard pattern" (I don't know how you'd say right in english, haha). But our circles never look so perfect as yours... great work!

Thank you. ♥ I think most people call it chequerboard pattern (or alternatively spelt checkerboard), but chessboard describes it just as well!

Seriously I love it.

Also, in your defence, it's much harder rolling up something with a smooshy filling.

I tried to do some pinwheel cookies in the past and I totally failed. And... everytime I try to make some cutout cookies, the dough is always too soft :(

If you're finding the dough too soft, maybe it needs to be chilled? Or do you mean it spreads? In which case the recipe may be problematic.

Chilling it never seemed enough, so I guess it's the recipe then :)

It was very satisfying! Though the best moment was the actual cutting of the dough. I had no idea how good my rolling efforts would be, so it was great to see it had all behave as it was supposed to.

They look wonderful! When I made them the recipe I was following suggested adding sparkles or candy sprinkles to the edge. You just put a little water on the roll before chilling and cutting and roll the roll in the sparkles/sprinkles. I thought they really added a little extra to it, you should try it sometime! Keep up all the great posts!!!
