When #projecteducate announced their 'Circus' Artisan crafts contest I was so excited to have a chance to make the circus cake that's been stuck in my brain for years. But the weather being incessantly hot as it is prevented this, so I had to focus on a smaller task. I had to wait until after midnight for the house to cool down, and even then the temperature here only dropped at 28C over night. It was enough to make this and and avoid any total disasters.
While my first thought where I hear 'circus' is Cirque du Soliel, next comes one of my favourite Disney characters: Dumbo. I'm terrible at mimicking and realism do it's not exactly his likeness. I had 3 attempts at the head before deciding I wasn't getting any closer. Getting the ears to stay attached and upright was a journey in of itself. But it was a good excuse to practise some fondant work, though.
Pedastal is made from red velvet cake covered in buttercream, then fondant. Dumbo is all fondant.
I am a huge Disney fan. Not a fan of their channel because those shows do encourage negative actions in children. The movies are great, Dumbo actually made me cry when I was little because he was kept away from his mother. That child got what was coming to him though, If it was my child, he'd gotten a spank for teasing such a cute elephant.
