Peach and Orange Mousse Cake by cakecrumbs Peach and Orange Mousse Cake by cakecrumbs
This is the cake I made for my boyfriend's 28th birthday. The base is madiera cake, the centre a cross between a chocolate mousse and a cheesecake, and the top is an orange jelly made from fresh fruit.

The cake was the first time I'd been able to succeed with using gelatine. Since then I have used it a lot, but up until this point it was a massive failure every time.

The recipe and more photos are here: [link]

It was quite nice - sort of cheese-cakey. My boyfriend has been requesting a re-make of this for some 2-3 years now, so he must have liked it!

Don't worry, I was bad at it before this cake. This was the first one where I got gelatine to work. Just take it slow and follow the instructions and it will turn out perfect!

Thanks. XD My boyfriend is a huge fan of cheesecakes, but doesn't really like fondant, so I usually try to make him something a bit different. Posting this up reminded me that it's his birthday again in a few weeks so I'd better get brainstorming!

Oh don't get me wrong, he'd eat every last bit of it haha. For our anniversary I made him a tiny fondant cake. But I know he finds the fondant very sweet and likes the taste of things like custard and cheesecake more. He knows how much time goes into them so even if he hated the taste he'd still eat the lot. xD

At lot of people hate the taste of fondant, so I get nervous when making fondant cakes. But I make mine from scratch so it tastes nicer than usual. My rolled fondant tastes a bit like fairly floss haha. But I mainly use marshmallow fondant, which tastes like extra-sugary marshmallows.

I honestly have to agree with him on that. I like fondant in small amounts.
I like creamier things. And chocolate... oh man chocolate is a sin.

omg...marshmallow...fondant........
I love you. Marry me. We can make it work. LOL

I was relieved it turned out like that! I was sure the jelly would rip away when I removed the border. Phew!
