Spicy Rose Cupcakes by cakecrumbs Spicy Rose Cupcakes by cakecrumbs
Mother's Day is fast approaching, and so too an occasion for which roses are gifted in abundance. Though it's more my style to give edible versions of things. These cupcakes are mixed spice buttermilk cupcakes, topped with orange and cinnamon buttercream. They're then adorned with fondant roses and leaves.

I chose pink roses for their meaning of thanks and appreciation, and yellow for the joy, friendship and gladness that they represent.

Every time I make roses I opt for cartoonish version, so I decided to go for a little more realism this time. I'll probably invest in a veiner next time I make these to give the petals proper texture.

Thanks so much. ♥  This weekend marked 4 years since I first tried working with fondant. It can be endlessly frustrating, but one day you just get to the point where you stop feeling like it is controlling you.
