Since it started to melt when it was on the cake, I really wanted to upload a picture of the spun sugar nest by itself.

You guize. I was so excited when the worked. Spun sugar has been my Achilles heel for so long. But we bonded, man. We understand each other now. I think this will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

This went on the Easter Nest Mud Cake, which here in my gallery: [link]

Recipe for the cake is here: [link]

[ETA] Whoa guys, a DD? Seriously? I'm totally shocked, but more than that, totally humbled by and grateful for the love you guys have shown. If I try thanking you guys all individually, dA is gonna tell me I'm spamming and ban me from comments again, so I'm just gonna thank you here for the views and faves. I've said it many time elsewhere, but again I'm just so appreciative of how welcoming and warm this dA community is. I've not been here long, but you guys are so much more supportive than anywhere else I've posted my stuff before. I really appreciate your support, it encourages me to keep going.

And last but not least, a massive thanks to =maytel for suggesting this. I'm shocked anyone would think any of my stuff was good enough for a DD. ♥

There's a couple of ways to do it, but it basically involves boiling a sugar syrup until it turns into that golden caramel/toffee colour. Once it stops bubbling, I dip a fork into it and essentially "wave" it over the handle of a suspended wooden spoon, gather up the strands and shape it.

Spun sugar was your Achilles heel? If that was your only weakness, you must be over 9000 now!

Haha. Oh how I wish. There's a lot of things I'm learning and really need to work on (like piping and tuilles). But spun sugar was the one thing that every time I tried it would be in inedible fail of doom.
