If I wouldn't be so busy, I'd make something too (maybe a polymer clay dinosaur, rawr.)... but now good luck to everyone who joins the contest!

... I can't stop staring at that child. It's so hilarious.

Question: Theme = "Pre-History" ie: many many years have to have passed....er.....
does this mean we can include anything from the Star Wars universe?
Note: and I quote: "A long time ago in a galaxy fa....." :)

btw... I'm kinda assuming that the answer is no, since it creates a huge loophole ;)

I do, however, have a serious question tho', (considering we are on deviantart after all....), which may make the competition more accessible for those with little or no knowledge of prehistory:
"Can fictional or dramatised prehistory be used? ie fictional representations of generally accepted / "believe-able" occurrences in our planets actual pre-history...." examples follow:

Examples: (film)
Caveman
Quest for Fire
The Clan of the Cave Bear
Bharat Ek Khoj
10,000 BC

Examples: (Literary)
The Clan of the Cave Bear
The Quest for Fire
Dance of the Tiger
The Story of Ab
The Village in the Treetops
The People That Time Forgot
Mists of Dawn
Out of Time's Abyss
A Story of the Stone Age

Examples: (graphic novels/comix)

TOR: A PREHISTORIC ODYSSEY (DC Comics)

If this is admissable, can an update to this journal be distributed?
Please, feel free to cut 'n paste from this comment if you wish...

Peter.

Pre-history refers not to something that was a long time ago, but to things that occurred before written history. Fan art that fits the theme has always been welcomed. So in this case, realistic fictional depictions of prehistory are fine. Star Wars is definitely outside those bounds.

WUHUUU!!!!! Ill craft right away, I sooo hoped this theme would win! *-*

A little question: I would like to craft something special from the earliest Bronze Age maybe a little earlier (scientists are not sure about this item yet) - is it still prehistoric enough? o.o

Or should it be something with dinosaurs or later stone blades?

I think the Bronze Age is fine (I'll let the other CVs jump in if I'm wrong). I believe up until the Iron Age is still considered pre recorded/written history.

*raises hand a bit* I have no plans to make anything (yet), but in a lot of academic fields that I have experience with, the definition of prehistory is actually considered different from place to place. For example, if a place was still undiscovered by anyone with a written language in 1200 AD, it could be/often is considered prehistoric due to the lack of written description about it - which is why Australian Prehistory is often considered to last until the 1700s....

I'll shut up now. I just have a love affair with anthropology (and crafting).

Indeed it is. There are many different definitions across time and space, which is why we're not being strict about it -- someone can make a craft of Bunjil and it will be fine. As long as the deviant has a recognisable element from one definition of pre-history within in it, and has acknowledged it, will be accepted.

Please don't feel hesitant about joining the discourse on it. :] It's a fascinating topic.

It is fascinating! I'm just hesitant to get involved, because I know I end up sounding like Hermione Granger sometimes.

I might actually have an idea for this challenge, though if I get the last piece I need in time will be the question...
