The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Cupcakes

Catching Fire came out here today. Yay. But I have to wait until tomorrow to see it. Boo. I'm not handing that especially well.

In celebration I made Catching Fire themed cupcakes! Because it's the only way to cope right now.

Each cupcake is meant to symbolise a character, apart from the mockingjay which is obviously the movie's logo. I limited what symbols I used to things that weren't going to spoil major plot points for people who haven't read the book yet. So we have:
Katniss: This one represents her wedding dress and the fiery transformation it undergoes. Made a whole bunch of individual fondant feathers and used dual-coloured buttercream for the fire.
Peeta: This is the locket and pearl he gives Katniss. We get a quick glimpse of it open in the trailer. I depicted it closed, but had no reference for what the front looked like. In the trailer there's some charm or something next to the locket in Katniss' hand, so I used the design on that.
Effie: This one is the outfit she's wearing at the reaping, because how distraught she looks in tha scene kills me every time. The buttercream swirls represents the light blonde wig she's wearing, and the monarch butterfly represents the butterfly covered outfit and fascinator she's wearing
Finnick Odair: A (home made, whoo I failed at making it) sugarcube on buttercream waves, because finnick has a close association with water and for his famous line "want a sugar cube"
President Snow: Snow's symbol is a white rose, which he wears to mask the scent of blood on his breath. Despite his efforts, Katniss remarks being able to smell the blood on him. The rose is made from fondant, and the 'blood' from coloured piping gel. I also put red streaks through the buttercream to represent the blood element.
